Hardware Portal ↗Surface resistance is an important parameter in controlling electrostatic charge on engineered components. The appropriate resistance range depends on the application, component design, grounding path, substrate, coating system, environmental conditions, and applicable ESD-control requirements.
EGK’s semiconductor coating portfolio includes proprietary systems engineered for application-specific surface-resistance requirements, including selected systems capable of achieving the 10⁵–10⁸ Ω/sq engineering target range. Actual electrical performance depends on the selected coating, substrate, geometry, surface preparation, coating process, environmental conditions, and applicable measurement method.
EGK 8 Coating Solutions is a portfolio rather than a single universal coating. Each system is engineered for different substrate types, thermal conditions, surface requirements and dimensional considerations. EGK coating technology extends beyond metal substrates, with selected systems applicable to engineering plastics, ABS, glass, wood, rubber and other materials where the coating system and process are technically suitable.
This application-specific approach allows EGK to select the coating system according to the actual component rather than applying the same formulation across different materials. Where required, EGK can also evaluate existing coated components for controlled stripping and re-coating, with the replacement coating engineered to restore the required surface specification and dimensional condition.
Resistance alone does not establish complete ESD protection. Application-level performance also depends on charge generation, grounding, contact configuration, material properties, equipment design, cleaning conditions, and the overall ESD-control program.
EGK provides eight proprietary coating systems engineered for different substrate materials, thermal conditions, electrical targets, surface requirements and production applications. Coating selection is application-specific and should be evaluated against the finished component and intended operating environment.
EGKAlphaT is engineered for metal and selected engineering-plastic components processed under controlled heat conditions, where defined electrical performance and controlled coating thickness are important. Utilizing an advanced, heat-cured fluorocarbon matrix composite, this high-precision finish provides consistent static-dissipative protection coupled with exceptional dry-lubrication slip properties and universal immunity to aggressive microelectronic cleaning solvents.
A heavy-duty surface conversion coating engineered strictly for compatible light metal components, focusing on specialized aluminium alloys where controlled electrical performance, high surface durability, and tight dimensional control are required. Grown directly from the substrate via an advanced electrolytic bath process, this dense interface creates an inseparable outer shell that delivers extreme scratch immunity across critical mechanical geometries. This micro-ceramic matrix provides elite wear defense and dielectric properties while remaining fully immune to intensive ultrasonic solvent cleaning.
EGKGammaL provides one of EGK’s broadest substrate capabilities and is suitable for selected plastic, ABS and glass applications. The coating provides controlled surface electrical characteristics, while final coating thickness is process-dependent and is not dimensionally controlled to the same degree as selected EGK systems. Applied via a precision liquid-phase dispersion process, this highly adaptable topcoat forms a uniform static-dissipative matrix that offers excellent resilience against standard automated assembly wipes, common aqueous cleaners, and mild manufacturing fluids.
Dual-phase coating technology developed for demanding applications on high-thermal-resistance substrates, particularly steel, stainless steel and selected aluminium grades. Suitability depends on the specific material, geometry and process requirements.
Precision dissipative coating for selected semiconductor tooling and engineered components where the substrate can withstand the required thermal processing. Material and application suitability should be confirmed with EGK engineering.
EGKAlphaP is engineered for selected high-temperature-resistant substrates where controlled surface electrical performance is required. Application suitability depends on the substrate, geometry and thermal process window. Grown via high-vacuum vapor synthesis, this sub-micron finish ensures perfect dimensional control.
EGK can evaluate existing coated components, strip the existing coating and recoat the component using a suitable EGK 8 Coating Solution. Where dimensional requirements are critical, the stripping and recoating process can be engineered around the required coating build-up, allowing EGK to restore the specified surface condition and coating thickness rather than simply adding a new layer over the existing coating.
EGK coating selection is matched to the substrate, material grade, part geometry, thermal process, dimensional requirements, surface condition, electrical target, operating environment and intended application . Because the eight coating systems have different material and process requirements, technical matching is recommended before production coating.
▸ Technical Enquiry* Performance, substrate compatibility, coating thickness, dimensional control, thermal-process suitability and environmental resistance are application-dependent and should be confirmed through technical evaluation and qualification testing for the intended component and operating conditions. Note* An environment with humidity level 40-55%, may accelerate ESD degradation.

EGK is headquartered in Batu Maung, Penang. Fast response, local technical engagement, and convenient part submission and collection within the semiconductor manufacturing corridor.
Our team brings semiconductor-industry engineering experience and understands the production requirements of the precision components being coated — not simply the chemistry of the coating itself.
EGK does not use one coating for everything. Our eight coating systems cover different substrate and process requirements, from metal and engineering plastics to selected glass, wood and rubber applications. The coating is selected according to the component and its intended use.
Where existing coatings need to be removed, EGK can evaluate, strip and recoat suitable components. For applicable systems, coating build-up can be engineered to meet defined dimensional and surface requirements.

A coating is not always just a layer. For precision components, coating build-up can affect critical dimensions, interfaces, clearances and functional surfaces. EGK approaches stripping and recoating as an engineering problem — not simply a recoating job.
A coating system can have excellent electrical or mechanical properties, but if its build-up is unsuitable for a precision interface, the finished component may still fail its intended application.
EGK therefore evaluates coating selection together with the physical component, manufacturing process, dimensional requirements and operating environment.
